I've worked at the same place for about seven years and my workplace is located only minutes from Baan Thai Restaurant. I had heard good things about this place from various sources, but it took me a long time to make the trek to try it for myself.
Following a conversation with a co-worker about food and restaurants, I couldn't get the idea of Thai food out of my head. I took it as a sign that my body was craving it. What could I do except listen to it!
I asked co-worker with whom I had been talking about this cuisine, if she felt like Thai food too, maybe the following day for lunch? She did!
So we were there when they opened the following day. I had heard they filled up quick and since we were at work, we couldn't really chance it a lengthy wait.
A rich red paint colour, wood elements and pieces of art bring life to the eatery. It's quite a small space, no more than a few dozen tables. It's so small that as I was waiting for my turn to use the bathroom, one of the servers asked if she could just get something out of there before I went in. It turned out to be a high-chair. It's cozy and comfortable.
Co-worker and I both had lunch specials which included a hot and sour vegetable soup and a main.
Co-worker had Pad Ga Prow. Chicken with baby corn, onions, green and red pepper, fresh chilli and basil leaves in spicy sauce was served along with rice.
I had Gaeng Garee Gai. Chicken and potatoes in yellow curry with coconut milk were served along with rice.
We also split Yum Ma Muang. Thinly sliced mango and shrimp with peanuts, chilli and shallots in spicy lime dressing.
It's unfortunate that it took me seven years to dine here. It was a pretty darn good lunch.
The lunch special prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. The presentation of the food is just so pretty. The colours and textures of the food are contrasted with the blue and white dishes that come in beautiful shapes.
The service was quick and efficient.
Co-worker thought that the mango salad tasted quite a bit like fish sauce, but I didn't so much find this. The mango was fresh, a tad underripe, but the flavouring was delicious.
I loved my dish. Filling, tasty, perfectly cooked. Co-worker also liked her dish.
The soup was tasty and full of flavour. Very enjoyable and good temperature.
Parking is free and eatery is wheelchair-accessible.
